Amy serves as Of Counsel with Littman Krooks. As an attorney and special educator with deep knowledge of learning disabilities, she views each case through a unique lens.

Amy E. Halpert serves as Of Counsel to Littman Krooks LLP. She focuses her practice on special education advocacy and due process. As an attorney and special educator with deep knowledge of learning disabilities, she views each case through a unique lens.

In addition to being an attorney, Amy is a certified special education and elementary education teacher, and literacy specialist. She is an Associate-level Orton-Gillingham practitioner through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, and a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist through the International Dyslexia Association.

Amy combines her extensive legal background with the insights and skills she has acquired as a special educator and a parent navigating the special education system, in order to advocate on behalf of children and families. She embraces a collaborative, yet action-oriented approach to ensure that each child with a disability receives services to which he/she is entitled and has a robust plan for learning in place. Amy takes great joy in empowering families with knowledge as they navigate the special education process.

Amy completed special education attorney training through the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) and received her Certificate of Special Education Advocacy from William & Mary Law School. In concert with COPAA, she co-authored a 2020 report focusing on the impact of seclusion and restraint on children with disabilities, The Crisis of Trauma and Abuse in Our Nation’s Schools. With the coronavirus creating unprecedented difficulty for students with disabilities, she has presented to parent groups and advocates on special education advocacy and measuring progress during a pandemic.

Amy graduated with a B.A. from Brown University, magna cum laude, and has a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She holds a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from Manhattanville College.

Prior to entering the field of education and advocacy, Amy practiced law as a corporate transactional attorney in New York City, and is admitted to practice in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. She is the parent of four children with very different learning profiles, who have inspired her interest and deep engagement in the field of education and advocacy. Amy resides with her husband, children and retired service dog (favorite child), in Westport, Connecticut.
